Nestled In

BEND, OR

In 1997 this home was designed for a family relocating to the high desert from the Seattle area.  Elements of highest importance to the clients were privacy, a strong connection to the natural features of their site and the Central Oregon environment in general…and opportunities for the display of art, both inside and outside.

Despite the manifestation of a design clearly less traditional for the high desert region, the low profile of the home and subtle earthtones of the exterior materials allow the home to settle comfortably into its setting.  The building nestles up to a sloping rock formation forming the lip above the Deschutes River canyon. The stepped building form and multilevel floor plan of the design give the sense of the home gently “draping” over the site.
